Comberton Village College
'Retrofitting carbon neutral services to commercial and public service buildings'

In partnership with our local authority, we have delivered on a multi-phased, partially government funded, project which is moving a school built in 1960, to be fully fit for the modern day demands of an educational setting – which has also had to account for the progressive growth of persons occupying the space to now exceed 2,500 people. This has included the use of Solar PV, EV charging, boiler management systems and a 720kw ground source heat pump system

'Making Circularity Happen'

David Chenery is a designer, systems thinker and entrepreneur. As co-founder of Reassemble, a sustainable design practice based in London, he has spent 15 years answering a question the built environment often avoids: can you achieve more by using less?

The result is the Restorative Design Framework — built around circular economy principles: designing with end of life in mind, engineering rigorous flexibility, designing out waste, and reducing both embodied and operational carbon.

In practice: a Michelin Green Star restaurant delivered at 41% less embodied carbon than a typical fit-out; 25 sites for GAIL’s Bakery; a deep commercial retrofit achieving BREEAM Excellent. Clients include the National Trust, St Austell Brewery and the University of Edinburgh.

The GAIL’s Fire Station flagship won Renovation of the Year at the QSR Awards and Innovation of the Year at the FEJ Awards. Reassemble were Global Good Awards finalists for the RDF’s measurable link between circular economy and embodied carbon reduction.

David also hosts the Sustain podcast and is Co-Chair of the Property Action Group for the Zero Carbon Forum.
